Christmas Past

I was packing up all the ornaments, Christmas decorations and items in the store today. Putting some away and donating others. I was sad the season was over and instead of ending with a bang, it ended with a thud. The bad weather over the weekend kept people away along with the ailing economy and the customers tendency to just head to a mall and not shop locally. I was sad. So many nice things that I worked extremely hard on, never found a home. I worked hard on the new ornaments and plaques--trying new things and ideas suggested by customers. They were never seen. I know I have no control over the weather or the lack of snow plowing along the street in front of the store but it still was quite bittersweet. Here's to a new year. I am turning my thoughts towards hearts, bunnies and easter eggs. Getting ready for Valentines Day and Easter. Happy New Year to all. http://www.handpaintedbycookie.com/

May Christmas bring a merry heart

milk can

I did this great milk can for a customer that I have known for quite awhile. I thought it was a great idea she had and I like how it came out. I think I will be looking for some more so that I can do them for the store.

Wayne Valley Dec 14

Well it was the last show of the 2008 season. Everyone is usually in a happy mood but this year the other crafters were quite somber. The season had been disappointing for most. We all said our good-byes and for some people it was going to be their final show. It was a tough year. But we were happy to still be working and meeting people and getting through this turmoil of a year. We have made alot of close friends with the other dealers. We have become a family and it is hard to see some people discouraged and struggling. We hope everyone has a better 2009 and that the worst is behind us.

buffet makeover

I did this great little buffet for a customer who redid her kitchen and wanted to add this color to it. When we delivered it, it fit perfectly and the color looked beautiful in the room. She has a great eye for color. I loved the whole look.

more gingerbread

I did these great china pieces with gingerbread men. Their faces came out great. I used the enamel paint and then baked them in the oven so that the paint would be permanent. They can be handwashed. Their faces look beautiful even after baking.

Paramus HS

We did a Christmas show in Paramus HS on Nov 30. We had alot of doll furniture with us. We have this new Laura Ashley fabric that I love that I put on the beds and Kitchen table sets. It was a good show. A little quiet. The weather was against us. As we packed in the morning, the snow was coming down heavy (around 6am). As it grew nearer to 9am, it was an icy, pelting rain. I think that may have kept customers away. As we packed up at night, it was a cold, driving rain. We were soaked. All in all, it was good to see and talk to everyone.
