VINTAGE HAND PAINTED ANTIQUE CABINET

This cabinet was quite a project. When we originally purchased it, it was green and a large radio cabinet. We removed the insides and sanded it down to get off the old finish. We then added a shelf and a new back to it and of course, my favorite, glass knobs. I took alot of time and handpainted large bouquets on the sides and flowers on the front and top. I think it came out beautiful. It went to a wonderful customer who loves collectibles and antiques and crafts in general. This pieces is no longer availalbe but please link to our website to see what we do have in the store right now. http://www.handpaintedbycookie.com

These tables have some story. These are from someone that has been a customer for such a long time that she is more like a friend. These were a relatives and they had been in a house fire. We did this table that someone brought in from a relatives house. Needed a table to match the theme in the current babys room. It was for a boy--so no flowers!! We did A B C's down the side to go with his bedding. I think it is real cute. We do not have this table in the store, it was a private job. Handpainted Vintage Dresser

What a
Transformation!!!!!!
I had a customer
that needed a certain
size dresser. I had
found a couple different ones for her but they did not work. Then she happened on this one. The depth of the drawers was important. We painted it white and did the flowers to match her new bedspread. We then
changed out to glass handles. She really wanted them. Had seen them before and loved the look. I can not believe the total difference in this piece. Word of caution: If you buy something with knots it needs special treatment. Better to buy clear wood. This piece belonged to one of our customers and is not available in the store. To see what we do have, visit the website:

Handpainted Student Desks

Did these old student desks for a school fundraiser. These were old desks from their kindergarten room. I painted one for a boy and one for a girl and they raffled them off. Later on I painted the name on the desk for the winner. I do not have desks like these in the store but I am hoping to find some. I had them last Christmas. I do have some regular sized desks. Please click on our website to see what is available.

Handpainted Vintage Sideboard

A customer brought in this great old sturdy maple breakfront. Has so many uses. We did a black top and then added a brown and black stain to cream paint. They were going to choose hardware later on. This piece is not available in the store but please check out website to see what is available.

Handpainted French Provincial Dresser

French provincial is my favortie. We had this great quality old dresser and it was solid wood. A customer was having twin girls. This piece fit perfectly for her and we did it so that it would still be something that could grow with her twins and they would like as they got older. This is not available in the store. Please link to the store to see what french provincial pieces we do have.

hand painted vintage desk

I had this older traditional desk and a customer asked me for a desk that could be painted white. They loved the size of this one. We changed out the knobs to glass and added a french provincial chair with vintage toille and painted flowers to match the fabric on the desk. It was quite a transformation and she picked some beautiful colors. This was a private job and it is not in the store. We do currently have a desk for sale in the store. Article in The Record Newspaper.

We were featured in an article in The Home section of The Record Newspaper on July 24, 2010
Here is an excerpt from the online version:

Furniture with a Past

With a little touch-up, even older furniture can add charm to your baby’s nursery.
Jeff and Cookie Ventura bring new life to vintage and antique pieces as owners of Hand Painted Furniture, Lyndhurst (handpaintedbycookie.com). While they sell a variety of furniture in the store, customers also can bring in their own pieces to be decorated.
"We get a lot of rocking chairs and toy boxes that were used when customers were young, and now they want to have them fixed up for a new child," said Cookie. "One customer brought in an old china cabinet. The shelves were taken out and a rod was put in to make it a baby closet. Once I’m done decorating it, the customer is going to fill it with baby clothes and present it at the shower."
Cookie purchases furniture at auctions and estate sales, and if a customer is looking for a particular item she will try to find it. She sells only old American-made, solid-wood furniture and works with non-toxic materials.
"We don’t like a lot of chemicals around," Cookie said. "When we take a piece apart, we reuse all the pieces that we can. We don’t refinish — we paint our pieces and add artwork to give each piece that original feel and quality of a one-of-a-kind item."
She explained, "[Our customers] can save money by bringing in their own antique furniture, having it decorated and then keeping it for years to come."
